Each year Compass Community Services plans ways to celebrate the holidays with our families in need. It is a time of year that can be particularly difficult for parents and children who have so little. One of the ways we try to make it a bit brighter is through our annual Adopt-a-Family Project.
The Adopt-a-Family program matches individuals or group donors with a family whose circumstances have made special holiday celebrations difficult or impossible. Adopt-a-Family participants will receive a wish list for each family member of their adopted family which will include a range of wishes such as clothing, toys and household items.
This year, we are asking Adopt-a-Family participants to consider the following donations:
- At least two gifts for each Adult
- At least three gifts for each child (18 and under)
- A gift card to a grocery or department store (i.e. Safeway or Target)
In addition, you may also purchase a “family” gift that is listed on the wish list. You may also include stockings for each family member to make the holiday feel more festive.
To be matched with a family this holiday season, or to be put on the mailing list for next season’s Adopt-a-Family project, please email kmansfield@compass-sf.org.
Compass also organizes a yearly holiday party during which we give gifts to each of the children accessing our services (there are 300-400 during a typical holiday season). You can help by organizing a toy drive at your school, office, or place of worship. Please email kmansfield@compass-sf.org for more information.
