Spring Forward 2011

Create Bright Futures

More than 300 guests joined Compass Family Services and Sharon Stone at the agency’s annual Spring Forward luncheon to raise funds to benefit San Francisco’s most vulnerable families. Each year Compass helps more than 3,000 parents and children exit homelessness and achieve self-sufficiency.

The event, hosted by master of ceremonies Steven Dinkelspiel, President and Publisher of San Francisco magazine, raised more than $160,000 in support of Compass’ six programs that provide a vital safety net for San Francisco families in need.

“Create Bright Futures, the theme of this year’s event, reflects Compass Family Services’ firmly held belief that with the right tools and support every family can reach their full potential,” said Erica Kisch, Executive Director. “I would like to extend a special word of thanks to Sharon Stone for her role in helping us exceed our fundraising goal and helping to ensure that Compass' services will continue to be there for any family who needs them.”

The keynote address was delivered by Marilyn Bunag, a former client who now serves on Compass’ board of directors. Ms. Bunag received a standing ovation after sharing her story of overcoming years of drug abuse and domestic violence with the help and support of Compass Clara House, a transitional housing program for homeless families.

During the program, Compass presented its third annual Community Award to My New Red Shoes. My New Red Shoes helps homeless children start the school year off with confidence by providing them with a new pair of shoes and a gift card for new clothing. Guests also got a first-hand glimpse into Compass’ programs during a photographic presentation by San Francisco documentary photographer, Fran Meckler.

The event closed with an exciting live auction hosted by Ms. Stone. Bidders had the opportunity to go home with sunglasses from designers like Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, and Gucci while showing their support for Compass’ work with families.
