Volunteer Spotlight: Hoa
In the time that Hoa, an 18 year old student at Raoul Wallenberg High School, worked with Compass Family Services, Hoa demonstrated an eagerness to learn, work, participate and dedicate his summer to help a monolingual Vietnamese speaking family.
Hoa was a huge help by ensuring he voiced the needs, requests, concerns, and the questions of the family during their monthly meetings with their case manager.
This continued dialogue and support helped the family stay on the right track to fulfill their housing program goals and successfully transition into a stable housing solution.
"My overall experience was interesting and amazing at the same time. It was my first time to translate and I was able to fulfill my duty and give my 100% to help the family with what they needed."
Hoa was dependable and dedicated in his work with the family he translated for during his time at Compass. By breaking the language barrier for Compass staff and this family, he saved many hours of staff time which meant he was helping many more families as well.
"I would like to give a big thank you to Compass Case Manager, Maria Guadamuz, for giving me a chance to help a family in need and connect two different languages."
Thank you, Hoa, for your good work and thoughtful donation of your summer to help others in your community!
