Heather and Travis were young, homeless, and living in Golden Gate Park when they found out they were pregnant. Knowing they needed a roof over their heads, they came to Compass Family Services. We placed the couple in Compass Family Shelter and not long after, their son, Kingston, was born. The family was later accepted into Compass Clara House, our 18-month transitional housing program for homeless families.

At Compass Clara House, Heather and Travis worked closely with their case manager to obtain recovery support and mental health services. Kingston attended our on-site childcare center and the family received parent education. Travis started a new job and the family began paying off debt and saving money.  They enjoyed their time as a family and took advantage of every opportunity Compass provided for them.

Heather became the president of the Clara House Resident Association and together, she and Travis were wonderful neighbors to the other Clara House program families. They graduated from the Clara House program in July and moved to a one-bedroom apartment in a permanent supportive housing building in San Francisco’s SOMA district. Travis is currently applying for a City internship and has added school to his busy schedule. Heather and Travis have embraced their new life and Kingston is truly thriving!
