Program

The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging will work actively with staff in all Compass programs.

Responsibilities

As a member of the agency’s leadership team, the Director works to imbue the values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) into all of Compass’ work with staff, clients, partners and the outside community. Compass has engaged in extensive work to set a foundation for our DEIB efforts, including establishing a DEIB workgroup, conducting agency-wide surveys, and identifying specific areas for further investigation and development. The Director will carry this work forward and will lead Compass’ longer term DEIB development and growth and help foster organizational unity.

We are looking for an expert communicator and leader who is excited to develop a vision, collaborate on solutions, and execute projects from start to finish.

Responsibilities:
• Establish operating norms, tools and practices that put DEIB values at the core of our work with each other, with clients, with external partners, and with the larger community.
• Oversee staff DEIB learning and development, ensuring all staff have the necessary skills to incorporate DEIB concepts and an anti-racist approach into their work.
• Work in partnership with colleagues to design and implement employee training, including directly delivering training on relevant topics.
• Be an expert and advisor as a member of the leadership team around anti-racism and DEIB efforts.
• Coordinate the employee DEIB Advisory Group, including facilitating meetings, recruiting and supporting members, and ensuring that the Group’s voice is heard. Act as a liaison between the group, Leadership Team, the Board of Directors’ DEIB committee, and programs around emergent DEIB issues.
• Coordinate a policy audit and establish a DEIB Work Plan for Compass.
• Establish and oversee Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), providing guidance and direction to grow ERGs into positive, effective, inclusive spaces within the organization.
• Effectively collect and utilize DEIB data in partnership with our Human Resources and Impact + Learning teams. Identify and manage data-focused projects, which could include analyses of pay equity, employee survey results, and other data sets.
• Support a leadership development pipeline in partnership with the Human Resources team.
• As a member of the Leadership Team, work to support Compass’ mission and show up as a leader for the organization both inside and out of your subject area.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• Professional experience specifically focused on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging projects.
• Expertise on issues surrounding access, equity, diversity, inclusion, implicit bias, anti-Blackness, and systemic and institutional racism.
• Experience leading and facilitating conversations around DEIB and anti-racism. Ability to engage people in tough conversations and foster a culture of learning and unlearning, listening, and advocacy.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and significant experience developing projects or initiatives from start to finish.
• Outstanding communication skills, including demonstrated experience communicating with a diverse set of internal and external partners and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Seven to ten years of experience. Experience developing workshops and training, including comfort and thoughtfulness with virtual sessions.
• Experience in co-creating or creating best practices for an organization, team or movement.
• Ability to gather, analyze and report on both quantitative and qualitative diversity and inclusion metrics in partnership with the Impact and Learning team.
• Understanding of trauma-informed care and systems.
• Bilingual/bicultural a plus.
