The Economic Justice Center: Free Financial Resources for SF Families
The city offers multiple financial counseling resources to families in need. However, they can be challenging to navigate if you don’t know where to find them. To make services more accessible, the Treasurer’s office has launched the Economic Justice Center.
The resources offered at this link can help San Franciscans build financial confidence, save for their future, and reduce debt. When facing fines and financials threats, families can also look to the city to help eliminate fees and stop scams in their tracks.

Financial counseling: Anyone who lives, works, or receives services in San Francisco can connect with free financial counseling. Counselors work one-on-one with residents, in person or online, to reduce debt, build their credit scores, and start saving. This service is available in English or Spanish, and individuals can be connected to translation services for any other language.
Kindergarten to College (K2C) Savings Account: K2C is a college savings account created for every K-12 grade student enrolled in the San Francisco public schools. The account is started automatically, with no need for paperwork. Every child automatically receives a $50 deposit upon enrollment, and from there they can build college savings. Families can search for their child’s account through the link above.
Fines and Fee Justice: This resource can connect low-income and homeless families to discounts and waivers for city fees. This includes transit tickets, SFMTA tows, ambulance bills, SF Animal and Control fees, SPUC Water, and child support debt.
Newcomer Road Map: Here, families and individuals living in SF who have recently arrived to the United States can access multiple services. These services can help families establish credit, save for the future, and participate in free one-on-one financial counseling!
StopScams SF: This initiative provides education on targeted scams that threaten Bay Area residents, helping individuals protect themselves from potential scams and seek help when they’ve been scammed. Families can visit the link to learn about common scams, and how they can protect themselves.
