DEIB | Compass Family Services boasts a strong passion for social justice. We embrace the idea that Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging contribute to our success and strive to look at everything we do through this lens. DEIB Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging At Compass Family Services, we are committed to the pursuit of DEIB in all aspects and areas of our work. We believe that we can only empower families to achieve housing stability, self-sufficiency, and lasting well-being by creating an equitable system and a culture of inclusion that reflects and leverages the diversity of our community. We understand the ongoing nature of this process, while also acknowledging how critical DEIB is to our success and integrity as an organization. COMPASS FY 2024-25 DEIB REPORT COMPASS FY 2023-24 DEIB REPORT COMPASS FY 2022-23 DEIB REPORT We aim to: Uphold the principles of social and racial justice Create and foster a culturally diverse environment for everyone, free of discrimination, bigotry, and hate speech Evolve our thinking and develop strategies for community empowerment, collective support, and social change through candid, experimental, and substantive discussion 1/5 What does Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging mean? DIVERSITY is about welcoming all the ways we are different–both visible and invisible–and promoting a wide range of participation and perspectives. INCLUSION is about valuing people’s unique experiences and ideas and ensuring they feel involved, respected, connected, and heard. EQUITY is about recognizing that each person has different circumstances and may need additional resources and opportunities to reach an equal outcome. BELONGING is about creating a culture where people can be themselves, feel psychologically safe, and be part of something bigger. Land Acknowledgement Compass acknowledges that we are in the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone and Coastal Miwok peoples, the original inhabitants of what is today called the San Francisco Peninsula. As the indigenous stewards of this land and by their traditions, the Ramaytush Ohlone and Coastal Miwok peoples have never ceded, lost, nor forgotten their responsibilities as the caretakers of this place, as well as for all peoples who reside here. We affirm the sovereign rights of their community as First Peoples and are committed to supporting the traditional and contemporary evolution of the Native American communities and uplifting contemporary indigenous voices and culture. We believe current, and future employees can thrive in a respectful environment. We will release our workforce demographics report annually to advance our commitment to these foundational values and establish transparency. This exposition provides an overview of the gender and racial composition of our workforce. We know that gender and race are just portions of people’s demographic identity, and that sharing this data is just the beginning of our ongoing journey for transparency about who we are. We seek to eradicate homelessness and empower our community toward the goal of ending racial and ethnic discrimination with focused attention on confronting anti-Black racism. As a community-based organization, we purposefully strive to identify, discuss, and challenge issues that disproportionately affect BIPOC community members. We recognize that statements can be meaningful but committed, consistent, and ongoing activities are the only tools that lead to positive change. WE STAND COMMITTED TO: Acknowledging racism as a societal problem that requires continuous education. Acknowledging racism as embedded in our organizational structures, policies, and systems and regularly auditing these structures through an anti-racist lens. Seeking out and listening to our Black, Brown community members, as well as other communities of color, to understand their experiences using our services. Investing resources to develop, organize, and support initiatives that foster anti-racism. We pledge to measure our progress as we fight racism, discrimination, and other forms of prejudice and injustice to make our community more inclusive, welcoming, safer, and an environment where every member of our community can thrive. Our Commitment to Stopping Asian Hate Compass Family Services stands united against hate and racism towards the Asian American & Pacific Islander community. We will continue our efforts to uplift shared histories and struggles of the AAPI community while deepening our understanding of the different ways in which systemic racism shows up in our communities. Our Commitment to Combating Antisemitism and Islamophobia At Compass Family Services, we denounce Antisemitism and Islamophobia, and we stand on the principles that value “our differences and our common ground.” Our value as a community-based organization reminds us to “confront and reject all manifestations of discrimination, including those based on race, ethnicity, gender, and gender expression, age, visible and nonvisible disability, nationality, sexual orientation, citizenship status, veteran status, religious/non-religious, spiritual or political beliefs, socioeconomic class, status, or any of the other differences among people which have been excused for misunderstanding, dissension or hatred.” This commitment to community and diversity includes standing against Islamophobia and Antisemitism. Our ideals guide us as we strive to foster a vibrant and inclusive community. Working toward that goal includes understanding, recognition of differences, and overall respect for one another. We are all responsible for this mission. LEARNING RESOURCES We believe in education as an essential part of our ongoing DEIB journey.
