Halloween Magic Returns to Civic Center!

Updated: 8 hours ago
For the second year in a row, San Francisco's Civic Center Plaza transformed into a Halloween wonderland as Compass Family Services welcomed more than 800 children and their families to our annual Pumpkin Patch for Children of the Tenderloin!
On Wednesday, October 28, the plaza was filled with costumes, pumpkins, and plenty of Halloween excitement. Children picked out their perfect pumpkins, went trick-or-treating, made arts and crafts, and enjoyed a full day of entertainment, including magic shows, circus performances, and more. Mayor Daniel Lurie and Senator Scott Wiener even stopped by to join the fun, each reading a special Halloween story to the children.
The Pumpkin Patch was born from the realization that many of the children in our programs had never experienced a pumpkin patch before. Rather than taking families outside the neighborhood, we decided to bring the pumpkins to them!
The Tenderloin is home to San Francisco's largest concentration of children, many of whom are growing up amid significant economic challenges. For families experiencing poverty or housing instability, opportunities for recreation and celebration aren't always easy to access.
At Compass, our work goes beyond helping families find housing and meet their basic needs. We also believe that every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, connection, and wonder of childhood. Our Pumpkin Patch is one small way we can help make that possible.
Two years in, we're thrilled to see this event becoming a beloved neighborhood tradition!
Check out the Halloween fun!
