    Adopt a Family | Adopt-a-Family is our annual holiday program which pairs individuals, families, groups and office teams with Compass families who are homeless or at imminent risk and lack the resources to buy holiday gifts. Sign up to volunteer by filling out our Group Volunteering Form, linked above. Our staff will follow up with you and help you plan a successful volunteering event! What tasks are there for groups? Compass Family Services has volunteer projects throughout the year. Your group can have a rewarding experience and see the direct impact. Here’s a list of on-going group volunteer needs: Stock our food pantry and assemble grocery bags Build hygiene kits and snack kits Sort donations of clothes, toys, books, and household items Replenish the donation racks and bookshelves for families to take what they need Clean and sanitize toys and furniture at our childcare sites Compass Family Services also has opportunities for event or seasonally focussed volunteering, from Mother’s Day to our Holiday Adopt-a-Family program. Reach out for information on upcoming opportunities. What days of the week are best for group volunteering? Most of our volunteer opportunities are Monday through Friday during regular business hours. We do have some weekend group volunteer opportunities throughout the year. VOLUNTEER As an Individual I WANT TO VOLUNTEER How do I volunteer at Compass Family Services? Compass Family Services offers occasional and recurring individual volunteering opportunities. Fill out our Volunteer Interest Form, linked above, and our team will follow up with you in a few business days. What tasks do occasional volunteers do? If consistent recurrent volunteering is more than you feel comfortable committing to, occasional volunteering is for you! Compass Family Services often needs additional hands to help with events, such as our annual Halloween Costume pop-up, decorating program sites for holidays, our Toast & Taste fundraiser, our big holiday Adopt-a-Family program, among other events and projects. What tasks do recurring volunteers do? Make a lasting impact in your community by becoming a recurring volunteer. BASIC NEEDS ITEM ORGANIZATION & DISTRIBUTION Every day, we distribute countless basic needs items to families who need them. Our volunteers help us ensure that families have access to these resources by organizing donated goods for distribution to Compass families. These volunteers assist with: Sorting donated clothing, books, toys and homegoods. Organizing basic needs items in our client drop-in area. Helping receive and organize food bank deliveries. Preparing bags of groceries for families. Organizing baby items for client distribution. MEAL PICK-UP DELIVERY Each week, we rely on volunteers to retrieve donations of bread and prepared meals from community partners and deliver them to our sites. For this opportunity, volunteers must have access to a vehicle and have a valid driver’s license. These volunteers can be either occasional or recurring. SKILL-BASED PROJECTS We are always happy to have volunteers contribute their unique talents to support Compass families. In the past, this has included: Research — help us stay on top of the ever evolving landscape of public policies, grants, community services and resources. Digital marketing and communications — share with us your skills and creativity in graphic design, SEO, website optimization and more! Administrative support/data management — help us make sure our office space and databases are clean, organized, and up-to-date! Childcare — for those with experience in this type of work, you can assist our team by helping provide childcare while parents attend appointments. Direct client services — only for those with proper certifications and experience, you can volunteer with our team to assess client needs and connect families in need with services. Does Compass offer volunteer opportunities for students? We love welcoming students as volunteers and creating new ways for them to engage further with their community! Whether it’s during a school break, after school, or for a special event, our student volunteers contribute so much through their volunteer work. Student volunteers must be at least 13 years old Community service credit for school is available upon request. Please indicate the need for community service hours when filling out the Volunteer Interest Form. Volunteers below the age of 13 may be considered for special family volunteering events as long as there is parental supervision for the entire duration of the volunteering activity.
