Debbie Koski

Debbie has 15+ years’ experience funding nonprofits in the private and nonprofit sectors, with a focus on housing and homelessness. She currently provides debt financing for affordable housing development at Silicon Valley Bank. Debbie previously served on the boards of Lyon-Martin Health Services and HealthRight 360. She earned her B.A. and master’s degree in public policy from UC Berkeley.

Steven is a fifth-generation San Franciscan and graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law School. He has worked as a program and financial analyst for the San Mateo County Manager’s Office, a Deputy District Attorney (San Mateo), owner and publisher of San Francisco magazine, and an active small investor in the film, commercial, restaurant, electronics component and real estate industries. Steven was motivated to become involved with Compass as homelessness has persisted as the preeminent challenge facing our beloved City.

Linsey Thornton

Linsey Thornton leads Business Management and Strategic Initiatives for the Global Product Solutions COO team at BlackRock. She was a founding member of BlackRock’s local chapter for volunteer and grant making engagement where she became acquainted with Compass in 2015. Since then, Linsey has managed BlackRock's engagement with Compass and served previously as a member of the Compass Leadership Council for two years.

Katie Giometti

Katie leads Product Partnerships at Sierra, a conversational AI company. Previously, she co-led the fintech practice at Obvious Ventures, brokered foundational partnerships at Plaid, and scaled the retail tech division at BlackRock. She has been volunteering with Compass since 2018 and served on the Compass Leadership Council from 2019 through 2023. She is a proud graduate of Dartmouth College, and currently resides in San Francisco with her husband.

Steff graduated from Middlebury College with a BA in Psychology, which she followed with an MA from Boston University in Communications. After working in public relations, she pivoted to teaching Pre-Kindergarten at the Beacon Hill Nursery School in Boston. Steff was the PA president at the Jewish Community Center preschool and served on the PA executive committee at Town School for Boys as Vice President and Communications Chair. Steff has served as a mentor to students applying to high schools with the SMART program.

Bob was a Founding Partner of DZH Phillips, with extensive experience in audits, reviews, compilations and tax planning, strategic planning, and succession planning. His expertise also includes management consulting and advisory assistance, involving forecasting, budgeting, business planning, and financing. Bob currently chairs the Audit Committee for Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture, serves on the board of Wu Yee Children’s Services, where he sits on the Finance Committee, Real Estate Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee. Bob joined the Compass board to help provide lasting solutions for homeless San Francisco families.

David Goldman

David Goldman helps nonprofit organizations achieve their goals by applying practical management strategies and fostering workplaces where people can succeed. With broad experience in board governance, leadership development, executive coaching, fundraising, human resources, strategic planning, compliance, and organizational design, David has spent decades supporting both individuals and organizations through senior leadership roles, board service, and advisory work. Currently, David serves as Senior Advisor for Congregation Emanu-El, sits on the Executive Committee for Compass Family Services and the Wallenberg Democratic Club, and is a board member of the Jewish Home and Senior Living Foundation. His background in employment law compliance, diversity and inclusion, leadership development, fundraising, and capital campaigns allows him to effectively support nonprofits in advancing their missions and serving their communities.

Chris Jackson

Chris Jackson is a President at SFG Asset Advisors a single family office. As CIO, Chris is responsible for asset planning, global strategy, investment and manager research. Prior to SFG, Chris worked at several asset managers including Barbary Coast Capital Management LLC, Hoover Capital Management and Emerging Growth Management LLC. Chris received his BA in Economics from Lehigh University in 1990. Having raised three girls in San Francisco, Chris and his wife Kathleen believe strongly in supporting the community organizations.

Kimathi Marangu

Kimathi Marangu is a Fellow at the Distinguished Careers Institute at Stanford University. He is the former global head of Prepaid at Visa and a former fintech entrepreneur who co-founded Cartera Commerce, which was later acquired by Rakuten. Prior to his entrepreneurial ventures, Kimathi was an investment banker at J.P. Morgan and Morgan Stanley. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Vassar College and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Kimathi is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Kimathi’s personal mission is to improve the financial health, physical health, and mental health of a significant number of people. In addition to his service on the Compass board Kimathi serves as chairman of the San Mateo County Employee Retirement Association pension board (SamCERA). He is also a member of the board of trustees of Vassar College. Kimathi is a board member of the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health and an advisory board member for Stanford Federal Credit Union.

Marybeth Shinn, Ph.D.

Beth is a researcher who studies how to prevent and end homelessness. She taught for 46 years at Vanderbilt and NYU and now lives in Berkeley near grandchildren. Her 2020 book with Jill Khadduri, In the midst of plenty: Homelessness and what to do about it (Wiley], surveys research to show that we know how to end homelessness, if we devote the necessary resources. Beth has served on the Board of the Partnership for the Homeless in New York and the Homelessness Planning Council in Nashville, and she currently serves on the Research Advisory Board for the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

Ken Whiting

Ken is a real estate attorney who has been a partner in several national and regional law firms. Earlier in his career, he worked in-house as the principal real estate attorney for Southern (now Union) Pacific railroad and as real estate counsel to a major U.S. wind-power company. He holds a BA from the University of Washington (English), an MA from Stanford University (Departmental Fellow in English), and a JD from the University of Chicago. Ken has provided pro-bono real estate legal services to Compass for almost twenty-five years. Those engagements exposed him to the deep commitment of the management and staff at Compass and inspired him to join the board to support Compass and its mission.

Dana Corvin

Dana is a third generation San Franciscan. She was a principal and Vice-President of Cal-Steam, a wholesale plumbing supply distributor. Since selling the business in 2006, she has concentrated her efforts in the non-profit world. Dana currently serves on the boards of the Contemporary Jewish Museum (since 2008), the Morris Stulsaft Foundation (Secretary), San Francisco State University Foundation and the Jewish Senior Living Foundation. She has been active in the Jewish Community Foundation since 2000, serving as a board member and officer, as well as on the Jewish Community Endowment Fund. Dana is a former board member and officer of American Red Cross, M.t Zion Health Fund (Chair), Congregation Emanu-El, Jewish Family & Children’s Services, SF Jewish Community Center, the J Weekly, and United Way of the Bay Area for Alameda Co. She is an active supporter of the Guardian Scholar Foster Youth Program.

Kimberly Garfinkel

Kim is a passionate women's health physician and advocate. She is a graduate of UCSF medical school. Additionally, she has masters in public health from UC Berkeley where she studied public health policy. Her community work involves equity and inclusion work and well as reproductive rights advocacy. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and four children and enjoys participating in Compass activities with her entire family.

Jeanne Hormuth

Jeanne serves as the Chief of Staff for KPMG's San Francisco office, where she provides strategic support to the managing partner and spearheads the implementation of key business initiatives. In her diverse role, Jeanne also champions the Inclusion Council, is a member of the KPMG Network of Women (KNOW) leadership team, and acts as the Community Impact Leader. This role includes overseeing the office's engagement with Compass Family Services and several other nonprofits in the Bay Area. Jeanne's deep passion for community service and her strong alignment with Compass Family Services' mission to support families in need inspired her to join the board.

Lauren's law practice focuses on complex civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels. She has represented clients in both state and federal court. Lauren has been a long-time donor in Compass' annual Adopt-a-Family holiday project.

Tim is a San Francisco native and is passionate about his work with Compass and the impact the organization has on the community. He has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Tim is also currently on the alumni fundraising committee for University High School.

Adam is a partner in a private wealth management practice based in San Francisco. His service on the Compass Board of Directors began after learning about the bay area housing crisis and touring Compass programs/facilities. His involvement with Compass stems from wanting to help provide support and advocate for services critical to bring transformational change for this invisible and vulnerable community. With a strong sense of community and responsibility, he has been active with various organizations combating poverty and food insecurity. He currently lives in San Francisco.

Most recently, Jenny served as the founder and Executive Director of Start Small Think Big, a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing equity and inclusion in entrepreneurship by connecting small businesses with the resources and community they need to thrive. Jenny is a graduate of Yale University and Cornell Law School. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and two children.

Eventually, he was responsible for marketing to commercial clients with over $2B in assets. Doug has also been an entrepreneur, co-founding two successful businesses. Doug serves on the board because he believes that every child deserves a safe and stable home.

Valerie and her husband Tim live in San Francisco where they are raising their three daughters.

Christine Ma, MD

For over 30 years, Christine has been devoted to improving the health and well-being of people experiencing homelessness, raising awareness and elevating the issues faced by children and families who are unstably housed, and delivering clinical care to children who are homeless. As a Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF, Christine serves as the medical director of the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland’s Encore Medical Clinic which serves the unique health needs of unstably housed families.

Beth Roy Jenken

Beth joined the board because she feels Compass does an excellent job helping those who need it most. She's grateful for the support she received at critical junctures in her life and wants to make sure others in our community have the supports they need. Beth served as a consultant for McKinsey & Co and has held a variety of positions in nonprofit and public sector focusing on family welfare.

Lauren Thornhill

Lauren Thornhill currently serves as the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement at The Hamlin School in San Francisco, where she recently completed a $77M capital campaign. Prior to joining Hamlin, Lauren served as Leadership Gifts Officer at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Associate Director of Development at the Exploratorium, and Director of the Annual Fund at Scripps College. She is a proud alumna of Scripps College, the all-women’s college of The Claremont Colleges Consortium.
